Women’s basketball gets tough win against Jarvis

WBB1-20-15-1The Saints women completed its North Texas road trip with an 81-62 win over Jarvis Christian College. The Saints move to 6-1 in the Red River Athletic Conference and 12-4 overall, while Jarvis dropped to 2-10 overall and 1-6 in conference. The Saints improve to one game behind first-place Langston University (15-0/7-0) and one-and-a-half games ahead of Wiley College (9-2/4-2). The Saints led by one point in the half, but Jarvis played a better game. They kept the Saints to 34 percent shooting from the field and allowed the NAIA’s eighth leading 3-point shooting team to 17 percent from 3-point range. Conversely, the Lady Bulldogs shot 41 percent from the field, including 33 percent from 3-point range. But halftime proved to be a catalyst for OLLU. The team came back to hold the Lady Bulldogs to 25 points, while scoring 43 in the second period. The Saints will play their next three conference games at home. On Tuesday, Jan. 20, the Saints will host Huston-Tillotson University (HTU) (4-10/3-3), and on Friday, Jan. 23, the Saints will host the University of St. Thomas (7-9/3-4). The following day, the Saints will host the University of the Southwest (2-15/1-6).
