Men’s golf wins conference title, earns berth to nationals

The men’s golf team captured the 2017 Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) Championship Tournament – the Saints third title in three years and the first-ever among solely RRAC teams. In the last two years, the Saints have competed along with the Sooner Conference and were the top RRAC finishers in both years. The Saints also won all the top awards, including those selected by the conference coaches. The two-day event took place at Olympia Hills Golf and Event Center and was being hosted by the Saints. Christopher Schriedel maintained his first-place first- and second-round standing to secure the Individual Champion Award. He shot an even 216 (70/68/78). Gerardo Daniel finished in second place for the Saints after shooting 1-over 217 (74/69/74) to win the Second Place Individual Award. Kane Ybarra followed in third place with a 2-over 218 (73/73/72). The conference coaches selected Ybarra as the RRAC Player of the Year as well as the Freshman and Newcomer of the Year. Stevan Hinojosa came in fourth place for the Saints, shooting 5-over 221 (72/78/71). Schriedel, Daniel, Ybarra and Hinojosa earned All-Conference recognition, and Head Coach Alan E. Baxter won Coach of the Year. The national tournament will take place Mat 16-19 at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill.
