Get into the Christmas spirit with Las Posadas and Candlelight this week

The OLLU community is invited to participate in two of OLLU’s longstanding traditions, Las Posadas and Candlelight, which will take place this week.

Las Posadas
Friday, Dec. 6
6 p.m.
Prayer service and re-enactment of Mary and Joseph’s search for lodging in Bethlehem. The procession will begin in front of Annunciation Chapel and will conclude with a reception in Chapel Auditorium complete with entertainment, pan dulce, tamales and hot chocolate.

Candlelight: A Night in Winter Wonderland
Saturday, Dec. 7
Candlelight is an event that was started by the Sisters of Divine Providence in 1935 to honor the season, reflect on Providence and give back to the West Side community. The evening will feature the following:

In keeping with the CDP tradition, participants are encouraged to bring a can/dry good or toy for donation.

Other events taking place on campus to celebrate the Christmas season include:

Sounds of Christmas concert
Wednesday – 7 p.m. – Sacred Heart Chapel
Christmas songs will be performed by choirs from OLLU and area Catholic high schools. The concert will be filmed by Catholic Television of San Antonio (CTSA) and will air throughout the Christmas season. Attendees are asked to arrive by 6:30 p.m.

This event is hosted by the Archdiocese of San Antonio and sponsored by the Division of Mission and Ministry.  

Lessons and Carols at the Lake
Dec. 15 – 3:30 p.m. – Sacred Heart Chapel
This afternoon service will include Advent readings, complemented by carols, hymns and anthems of the season featuring:
