In celebration of OLLU’s 125th anniversary, four distinguished female alumni will share the impact of the university on their lives during “Carriers of the Legacy,” a Women’s HerStory Month virtual event that will be held Friday, March 19, at 12:30 p.m.
The one hour panel discussion will feature:
- Margie E. Padilla, PharmD (BA 1998), a Clinical Associate Professor and Interprofessional Education Coordinator at the University of Texas at El Paso School of Pharmacy. In 2017, the American Pharmacists Association honored Dr. Padilla with the Immunization Champions Award for outstanding contributions to improving the vaccinate rates in communities.
- Lorena G. Gonzalez, PhD (BA 1989, PhD 2005), a member of the OLLU Board of Trustees and Vice President of Urban Strategies. Dr. Gonzalez is a graduate of Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government’s Executive Education Program. She is co-author of the Amazon bestseller, “Inheritance: Discovering the Richness of Latio Culture and Family.”
- Jessica Ortiz (BA 2017) a Media Relations Specialist for RAICES Texas and a former award-winning journalist. One year after graduating with a degree in mass communications, Ortiz won a Lone Star Emmy Award as a Univision 41 assistant producer for best morning/daytime newscast in a medium market.
- Marika Azocar (BA 2013) the Impact Director at City Year Boston, an AmeriCorps program. In her leadership role, Azocar is dedicated to improving education equity in Boston Public Schools. She received a certificate in Nonprofit Management and Leadership from Tufts University.
