Track and Field’s Ramirez and Oslund win 5,000m, while Ochulo takes second place in shot put


The track and field teams participated in the Cardinal Invitational at the University of the Incarnate Word, and several Saints had notable results. Krystal Ochulo started the activities for the Saints on Friday afternoon with a significant performance in the shot put. Ochulo’s throw of 12.02m (39 feet, 5 inches) is currently the farthest throw in the RRAC by more than a full meter. Ochulo came in third place among NCAA DI, DII and DIII competition. Elena Oslund and Luis Ramirez won the 5,000m, also among NCAA DI, DII and DIII schools. Oslund’s time was 18:08.78 – a new OLLU record, and when compared to non-OLLU athletes, hers was the fastest 5,000m time in the RRAC by more than four minutes. Ramirez’s time was 15:46.12 – the second fastest time in the RRAC and just shy of an OLLU record.
