Historic season ends at opening round of nationals for women’s soccer

womenssoccerWomen’s soccer was hoping this year would be different with an eventual win to advance to subsequent rounds of the NAIA Women’s Soccer National Championship Tournament. But, for the fourth year in a row, the Saints lost their opening round match, this time to Baker University – the 12th ranked team in the NAIA. Despite the unfavorable outcome, the Saints class of 2016 has much to celebrate. They end their season as the most accomplished group of seniors (also one junior/one graduate student) in Saints’ women’s soccer history. The group – Daniela and Gabriela Colina; Pauline Fields; Jackie Lambarida (junior, who is transferring to nursing school); team captains Gabriela Lopez, Katherine Murtagh-Huerta and Amaris Tavares; Yesenia Martinez; Madison Raines (graduate student); and Hayley Tiernay– excels in the classroom as Red River Athletic Conference Scholar Athletes and on the field – many as all-conference selectees.  The 10 have never been part of a losing season, they’ve received NAIA Scholar Team recognition and they demonstrate champions of character in all they do throughout campus and in the community.
