Providence Catholic School benefits from spring 2017 Employee Service Day

Thirty-one employees participated in the spring OLLU Employee Service Day last week assisting Providence Catholic School, which was also founded by Congregation of Divine Providence. Employees painted lines in the school’s parking lots, landscaped around campus, organized the library, cleaned the locker room and cleaned the gym and stage. Additionally, employees were able to learn more about the mission and vision of Providence Catholic School.

One OLLU employee said, “I felt the strong legacy of the Sisters here. As a team today, we accomplished so much by working together. As small groups finished their projects, we just kept helping others until everyone was finished. We really wanted it to go above the expectations of Providence staff and leave it looking really good for the students. It was a great day, and I got to spend it with colleagues who also care so much about each other and the community we serve.”

OLLU sponsors an Employee Service Day in the fall and spring benefitting a local nonprofit agency or group. Employees can take part in the service day without having to use vacation leave time. This event is coordinated by the Center for Service-Learning and Volunteerism and the Division of Mission and Ministry.

Red River Athletic Conference recognizes OLLU with its fourth consecutive ‘All-Sports Award’

For the fourth year in a row, OLLU has been crowned with the Red River Athletic Conference All-Sports Award as the conference’s top-performing athletic program during the 2016-2017 academic year. OLLU exceeded last year’s total by one point with a total of 137 across all RRAC-sponsored sports.

The Saints captured 10 titles this season — nine of which count toward the overall standings.

OLLU Athletic Director Jack Hank commented, “I am overjoyed for OLLU to have been selected as the All-Sports recipient for the fourth year in a row. Each of our student-athletes put more than 100 percent toward their success on the playing field and court, and they each deserve this recognition. We had 10 titles, but we also had track and field teams place second and softball place third. We had one team that did not make the post season, but they had a successful transition year with a new head coach, and I expect them to get back on track this upcoming year.”

The All-Sports Award is given annually to the RRAC athletic program that performs best across the conference’s sports in a given academic year. Points are awarded to the top five teams in regular season conference standings using a 10-8-6-4-2 scoring system, while results in conference tournaments and championship events merit additional points on a 5-4-3-2-1 basis. In sports such as cross-country, golf, and track and field, postseason team finishes are awarded regular season and postseason points. Read full story online.
