Employee retirement plan meetings set for August

The Human Resources Office will be holding meetings to discuss changes to the 403(b) Retirement Plan on Aug. 4 and Aug. 5 in Main Building, Room 311.

Representatives from Transamerica, OLLU’s new retirement plan provider, will be on campus for two days. Staff members are encouraged to attend one of the group meetings. Group meetings are scheduled for the following times:

Aug. 4

  • 9 a.m. (Spanish-only session)
  • 10 a.m.
  • 11 a.m.
  • 1 p.m.
  • 2 p.m.
  • 3 p.m.

Aug. 5

  • 9 a.m.
  • 10 a.m.
  • 11 a.m.
  • 1 p.m. (Spanish-only session)
  • 2 p.m.
  • 3 p.m.

Employees currently enrolled with TIAA-CREF can schedule a one-on-one meeting with Transamerica representatives to discuss transfer options. These one-on-one meetings will be held Aug. 4-8

Bookstore offering complimentary beverages for faculty and staff during the summer

The University has made an agreement with the OLLU Bookstore to provide complimentary beverages for faculty and staff while the cafeteria is closed for summer hours.

Beverages are available Mon-Thurs from 8:30-11 a.m. and Friday from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Beverages include coffee (creamer, sugar will be included) as well as hot water and teabags. Bottled beverages (20 ounces) include:

  • Coke
  • Diet Coke
  • Coke Zero
  • Cherry Coke
  • Sprite
  • Dr. Pepper
  • Dasani

Note: Energy drinks, fruit juices, protein shakes and water larger than 20 ounces are excluded.

Faculty and staff must present ID to receive a beverage.

Complimentary services will continue in the cafeteria from 11 a.m-1 p.m.

403(b) Fee Disclosure

Our Lady of the Lake University’s Human Resources Office has placed viable 403(b) information on the myOLLU Portal Human Resources page in an effort to help employees make well-informed decisions about investing for their retirement. Federal regulations require the Human Resources Office to provide specific plan and investment information on an annual basis that includes detailed information about investment options and expenses associated with those investments.

No action is required at this time; however, the information is being provided as required.

Professor Benavides has busy summer

Yvette Benavides, associate professor of English, has had a busy summer. In addition to graduating with an MFA in creative writing from the University of Texas at El Paso in May, she has also had several works published and some that will be featured in upcoming publications.

Here are a few highlights:

  • Her book review of Siri Hustvedt’s novel, “The Blazing World,” was published in the San Antonio Express-News on May 23.
  • Her essays, “Dreaming of a Goal: Each Immigrant Has a Story,” and “Chipotle Tazas: Latino Writers Need Not Apply,” were published in “The Rivard Report” in May.
  • Her radio commentary about cultural icon, Rita Vidaurri’s 90th birthday, aired on “Fronteras” on Texas Public Radio (TPR) the week of May 23.
  • Her story, “Roldex of Saints,” will be published in the upcoming issue of “Huizache Magazine.”
  • Her short story, “Attachments,” will be published in the fall issue of “Bellevue Literary Review.”

Employees participate in the San Antonio Sports Corporate Cup

More than 50 OLLU employees participated in the San Antonio Sports Corporate Cup hosted by H-E-B. The event brought employees from more than 70 organizations together for a day of fitness, friendly competition and employee camaraderie. Team members participated in events such as the tug of war, 3-point shootout, 5k, sack race, soccer kicks, golf chipping, 3v3 basketball tournament and more. The OLLU team came in eighth place in its division.
