Five Saints baseball players selected to All-Conference Team

TheΒ Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) announced the 2023 RRAC Baseball All-Conference Team and player of the year awards May 4. Coaches determined the selections, with those on the first team being eligible for NAIA All-America consideration at the completion of the season.

2023 RRAC Baseball All-Conference Team

The Saints ended the regular-season with a 20-9 RRAC record and are now 29-18 overall – they’ve won their last seven games. They won one of the top awards, plus they placed one on the all-conference first team, three on the second-team and one on the Gold Glove team.

Alec Martinez earned All-Conference First-Team Honors as the Saints top pitcher. Caimyn HolidayJackson Kalisky and Joshua Mendez captured Second-Team and Gold Glove honors. Chase Dunn was the team’s Champions of Character representative.

Kalisky was named the RRAC’s Freshman of the Year.

The following are current, significant stats (top five) for all the honorees:

RRAC Freshman of the Year – Jackson KaliskyHe is having a phenomenal first year with the Saints, recording the most home runs with 12 and the most RBIs with 68 in the conference – both OLLU season records. His 68 RBIs is a tie for fourth all-time at OLLU with his brother Connor Kalisky, who played on the team from 2015-2017. Kalisky is second in the conference in slugging percentagear with .716.

Caimyn Holiday β€“ His 51 hits are fifth best in the conference, and he has the third most doubles in the conference with 16.

Alec Martinez  β€“ He has a 6-2 record – third in the conference – and he leads the team in ERA at 2.20 the second best in the conference.

Joshua Mendez β€“ He has the fifth most strikeouts in the conference with 62, and he is sixth in the conference in ERA with 3.73. He has a 1.000 fielding percentage.

Chase Dunn β€“ He has two saves this season and has won two games for the Saints.

Martinez and Broussard named to Academic All-District Team

Isaac Martinez and Lindsey Broussard have been named to the Academic All-District Track and Field / Cross-Country Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The program recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.  

To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team’s games at their positions. No student-athletes are eligible until they have completed one full calendar year at their current institution and have reached sophomore athletic eligibility.

Martinez and Broussard will advance to the national ballot after receiving First Team honors. Recipients of those awards will be announced at a later date.

Martinez is a senior from Weslaco, Texas, and a graduate of Weslaco High School. At the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) Track and Field Championships last month, Martinez won the 5000m and 10,000m runs. Martinez placed fifth in the 8000m Cross-Country Championships in November of 2021. He and the Saints won the conference meet and participated in the NAIA National Championships in Vancouver, Wash. Martinez earned a 4.0 GPA this past academic year, and he has a 3.917 cumulative GPA.

Broussard is a junior from Kingwood, Texas, where she graduated from Kingwood Park High School. At the RRAC Track and Field Championships in April, she was the runner-up in the 3000m, and she won the 5000m. She placed sixth in the 5000m Cross-Country Championships in November, and she and the Saints won the conference meet. They competed in the NAIA National Championships in Vancouver, Wash. Broussard earned a 3.8 GPA this past academic year, and she has a 3.783 cumulative GPA.

OLLU competes in this awards program as part of District 4, College Division, which includes schools from the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) in Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, Nevada, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington, Wyoming and Canada.
