Student education organizations preparing for World Teachers Day

OLLU student education organizations are making plans to celebrate World Teachers Day, which will be held on Oct. 5. World Teachers Day is designed to celebrate the teaching profession and consider ways to attract and keep the brightest young minds in the profession. This year’s theme is “Young Teachers: The Future of the Profession.”

The Texas Association of Future Educators (TAFE) and the Bilingual Education Student Organization (BESO), together with the RYHT Charles Butt Scholars, will honor World Teachers Day by putting together goody bags throughout this week, starting today.

Students will hold a “Honk and Wave” event in front of Main Building during the community hour on Oct. 5 from 12:30-1:30 pm. They will hold up signs announcing World Teachers Day and encourage passing vehicles to honk and wave in an effort to bring about awareness of teacher appreciation.Â
