The men’s soccer team did what no other team in OLLU history had done before. Last season, the Saints’ historic season resulted in winning both the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) regular season and the conference tournament championship. In addition, for the first time in history, the men’s soccer team will enter the season receiving votes in the 2013 Men’s Soccer Coaches’ Preseason Top 25 Poll. The Saints, who lost 1-0 to Concordia University – California in the first round of the NAIA National Championship Tournament last year, received 14 votes in the poll released on Aug. 20. No other member of the Red River received votes. As the team enters its seventh season, Head Coach Shane Hurley and Assistant Coach Arthur Salazar have their goal set for another successful year. Saints volleyball looks forward to beginning season on Aug. 23

Volleyball8-26-13
The volleyball team played a scrimmage at Trinity University on Saturday. The Saints will play their first regular season game on Friday against Schreiner University.

The volleyball team, led by Head Coach Mark Lee, is getting ready for another competitive year as preseason is set to start on Aug. 23. The Saints will host NCAA Division II St. Mary’s University for a scrimmage. The Saints finished the 2012 season in fourth place in the Red River Athletic Conference and suffered a tough loss in the conference tournament quarterfinals against Texas Wesleyan University. The Saints fought hard, but lost 3-1 (25-21, 20-25, 25-20, 27-25). According to Lee, last year’s team was a very young team that had a season filled with close games that resulted in a lot of tough losses. He hopes that his returning players learned a lot from previous mistakes and will be able to turn tight games into victories this year. “I feel confident that the players returning to the team will come back with their heads in the right place,” Lee explained. Name the new OLLU newsletter and win a Kindle Fire HD

Today begins the naming contest for the University’s official newsletter (formerly e-Currents). OLLU students, faculty and staff can submit name suggestions for the newsletter. Submissions will be accepted until Sept. 5 at 5 p.m., and final voting will begin Sept. 9. The winner, who will be announced on Sept. 16, will receive a Kindle Fire HD.

Contest Rules:

  • Open to all current OLLU students, faculty and staff.
  • All submissions must come from a valid OLLU email address.
  • Submissions must be made using the form below.
  • Unlimited number of submissions by a single person.
  • Submissions of the same name will be credited to the person who submitted the name first.
  •  Incomplete submission forms will not be accepted.
  • Nominations close Thursday, Sept. 5 at 5 p.m.
  • Voting on finalists will begin Monday, Sept. 9 and close Friday, Sept. 13 at noon.

*Note: Until the new name of the newsletter is decided, correspondence to the OLLU community will still come from the OLLU e-Currents Online Newsletter mailbox. Once the name has been chosen, correspondence to the OLLU community will come from the mailbox that carries the new name. The email address will also be changed.

Seven students from Holy Cross of San Antonio started classes today as part of a new dual credit program with OLLU. The partnership between the schools allows juniors and seniors from Holy Cross of San Antonio to earn college credit from OLLU while they are still in high school.

The students attended their first class this morning after OLLU Executive Vice President Robert Bisking, OLLU Dean for the College of Arts and Sciences Michael Laney and Holy Cross of San Antonio Principal Henry Galindo, signed the Memorandum of Understanding Agreement.

The students will be taking an English course with Candace de leon Zepeda, PhD, visiting professor of English and QUEST director, this semester.
