Faculty members learn to incorporate service-learning into their classes

The 2013 OLLU Service-Learning Faculty Fellows participated in an intensive, weeklong training about the service-learning pedagogy and then worked all summer with the Center for Service-Learning and Volunteerism (CSLV) to redesign one of their courses to integrate an experiential learning component. University Convocation for faculty and staff tomorrow

This year’s University Convocation for faculty and staff is tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. in Thiry Auditorium. Convocation will kick off OLLU’s 2013-2014 academic year and will include staff, faculty and members of the Board of Trustees. Its focus will include the State of the University, Strategic Plan and a celebration of the OLLU community. Lunch will be provided following Convocation at noon in Chapel Auditorium.

The OLLU community is invited to attend the retirement party for OLLU Registrar Norma Andersontomorrow from 3-5 p.m. in Providence Hall, West Social Room. Anderson has served OLLU for more than 40 years, and OLLU would like to honor and thank her for the many years of dedicated service.

OLLU welcomes new director of The Woodlands campus

Isiah Brown, PhD, has joined the OLLU community as the director of The Woodlands campus. Brown comes to OLLU from Texas Southern University, where he was the executive director for the Urban Academic Village. He earned his Doctor of Philosophy in educational leadership from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University. He received his master’s degree in public administration and his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Savannah State University.

OLLU kicks off new year with Lake Orientation and Right Foot Week

OLLU will welcome new and returing students to campus beginning Friday as the residence halls open and students begin moving back to campus. Lake Orientation will provide various events for new students and their families to attend throughout the weekend to welcome them to the OLLU community. The fun continues Monday as the first day of classes for the traditional session also marks the beginning of Right Foot Week. Right Foot Week helps students get the academic year started on the “right foot.” Events include Club Rush, an RA block party, the HALO social at the San Antonio Museum of Art, the Cas Haley Reggae Lounge, the SLD Headphone Disco Party Jam, soccer games, volleyball games, and much more. Spain and Portugal information meeting Saturday

There will be an information meeting Saturday at 2 p.m. in Thiry Auditorium to introduce students, faculty, staff, alumni and parents to the OLLU travel program. The OLLU travel program will be visiting Spain and Portugal this year during spring break. Any faculty, staff or alumni who sign up before Sept. 6 will receive a $100 discount.
