OLLU wins all four games during ‘Saints Super Saturday’

OLLU recorded four wins during “Saints Super Saturday.” First on the schedule was the women’s soccer team, which faced Texas College at 1 p.m. Junior Megan Jefferies set a new Saints all-time single game record of 10 shots and she finished with a hat trick to guide the Saints to an 8-0 win. The win improves the Saints record to 11-1-1 overall and 3-0 in the Red River Athletic Conference, while Texas College drops to 3-7-2 overall and 0-3 in the conference. The Saints are now tied for first place with the University of Texas at Brownsville (8-2/3-0) and both are ½ a game ahead of Huston-Tillotson University (3-4-1/2-0). Bacone (5-8/1-3), Wiley (0-10/0-1), Southwest (3-7/0-3) and Texas College follow.
The volleyball team came up next on the schedule, and the Saints defeated Texas College in straight sets, 25-14, 25-8 and 25-18. The Saints’ overall hitting percentage was .519, while Texas College’s was .029. The match took a few minutes more than an hour to complete.
Saints fans then headed outside to watch the men’s soccer team dominate the Texas College Steers to secure an 8-0 win. The men move to 9-2 overall and 2-1 in the Red River Athletic Conference, while Texas College drops to 3-6 overall and 1-2 in the conference. The Saints are one game behind league-leader the University of Texas at Brownsville (10-1/3-0) and ½ a game behind University of St. Thomas (6-2-1/2-0) and Huston-Tillotson (3-4-2/2-0). OLLU is followed by Texas College, Southwest (2-7/1-2), Wiley (4-4-1/0-2) and Bacone (1-10/0-4). Senior Yared Temesgen recorded a hat trick during the game.
“Saints Super Saturday” ended with the volleyball team defeating Jarvis Christian College 25-9, 25-17 and 25-23. The two wins move the Saints to 10-8 overall and 6-2 in the Red River Athletic Conference, while Jarvis drops to 0-18 overall and 0-6 in the conference, and Texas drops to 0-13 overall and 0-4 in the conference. The Saints are now two games behind league-leader the University of Texas at Brownsville (16-0/8-0) and one game ahead of Wiley (11-11/4-2).
