Tickets for the Campanas de America concert now available

The highly acclaimed musical group, Mariachi Campanas de America, will present a Valentine’s Day concert on Saturday, Feb. 14, at 7 p.m. in Thiry Auditorium.

Founded in 1979 by Juan and Belle Ortiz, Campanas de America (Bells of America) is an innovative 12-piece musical group that combines traditional Mexican mariachi music with Latin and mainstream pop rhythms. The group has performed at the White House, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the Hollywood Bowl and the “Mariachi U.S.A. Festival.”

Ticket prices range from $10-$25 and can be purchased online at www.ticketriver.com. Tickets can also be purchased in person with cash or credit card in Casa Caritas, Room 9, Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. OLLU faculty, staff and students will receive a $5 discount, but tickets must be purchased in advance in person with proper University ID.

The OLLU community is invited to attend “Stalking Awareness Month: Know It, Name It, Stop It,” Thursday at 6 p.m. in the Library Community Room. The event will feature OLLU alumna, Patricia Castillo, as she seeks to raise awareness about stalking.

‘Through the Lens of a Diocesan Priest’ is next installment of the Providence Lecture Series

The next event of the Providence Lecture Series, “Catholic Relief Services: Through the Lens of a Diocesan Priest” will take place Feb. 5 at 4:30 p.m. in Providence Hall, West Social Room. During the event, Fr. David Garcia, who is on the National Board of Catholic Relief Services (CRS), will share his insights and experiences of the impact the organization has had on people around the world.

OLLU to host annual Segundo de Febrero event Saturday

Breakfast” on Saturday from 9-11 a.m. in the Library Community Room to commemorate the signing of the 1848 Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo.

During the event, Oscar Dueñez, OLLU SGA President, will present the keynote address, “A Contemporary Reflection on the Segundo de Febrero.”

Students invited to ‘OLLU Fights Back Against Violence’

OLLU students are invited to attend “OLLU Fights Back Against Violence” on Tuesday at 5 p.m. in Providence Hall, West Social Room. The seminar will teach students the basics of personal safety and self-defense in a fun and “edu-taining” format that blends straight talk and comedy.

American Advertising Federation scholarship available for OLLU students

The American Advertising Federation (AAF) San Antonio has scholarships available for students pursuing a degree in advertising or a related marketing/communications field.

Each student applying for the scholarship must be enrolled as an undergraduate student, have successfully completed at least 24 credit hours and have at least a 2.5 overall GPA.

Men’s basketball drops first game in RRAC to USW

Mens Basketball 1-24-15The No. 11-ranked men’s basketball team suffered its first conference loss of the season against the University of the Southwest (USW) 95-90. The loss snaps a 12-game win streak for the Saints who now sit at 14-2 on the season and 9-1 in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC). The win moves USW to 11-8 on the season and 5-5 in the RRAC. The Saints will hit the road for the always-difficult trip to Louisiana. OLLU will take on the No. 22 Louisiana State University-Alexandria in Alexandria on Jan. 30.
