The Worden School of Social Service, with a grant from the Hogg Foundation and collaborating partners, will host the symposium, “Unaccompanied Minors: An Ongoing Crisis,” Saturday from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. in Providence Hall, West Social Room.
During the event, there will be a dialogue to discuss issues concerning unaccompanied minors and develop responses to this crisis.
Topics to be explored include:
- How does Post Traumatic Stress Disorder stemming from abandonment, sexual trauma and exploitation impact the unaccompanied child?
- How can we prepare to treat the long-term health implications of the unaccompanied minors?
- What are some of the social capital issues identified with this population?
- How will their mental health problems impact learning?
- How are these children impacted by social isolation?
- How can our community respond to this dilemma?
