OLLU employees complete service at Guadalupe Community Center

Last week, approximately 30 faculty and staff volunteered at the Guadalupe Community Center for the OLLU spring Employee Service Day.

Part of the Catholic Charities network of programs, the Guadalupe Community Center offers a variety of services to the community, including food and clothing distribution, youth programs, legal services, and cultural enrichment programs. Throughout the service day, OLLU volunteers assisted in sorting food, clothing, and hygiene products, as well as community gardening, re-organizing spaces, and data entry. The day ended with a reflection led by University Ministry.

The Center for Service-Learning and Volunteerism coordinates two employee service days each year, as part of the University’s strategic plan. Faculty and staff are allowed to take part in one service day per calendar year without using leave time. The next service day is scheduled for Oct. 23. More information will be available closer to that date.
