OLLU to benefit from the San Antonio Missions ‘World Heritage’ recognition

The World Heritage Committee of the United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has recognized San Antonio’s five historic missions’ sites as a “World Heritage Site.” The recognition, bestowed upon the missions on July 5, 2015, is expected to bring more tourists from around the world to San Antonio.

For OLLU, this recognition means an increasing number of scholars will visit the Center for Mexican American Studies and Research (CMASR) archives, which include the Old Spanish Missions Collections. The documents in these collections reflect the period from 1680-1820 and include maps, photographs, drawings, and writings about the missions, many of which are duplicates from archives in Mexico, Spain, Italy, England and France.

The Old Spanish Missions Collection is available to researchers by appointment. For more information, contact Sister Maria Eva Flores, CDP, PhD at mcflores@ollusa.edu.
