Employees give back during Employee Service Day

On Friday, Oct. 23, 16 staff members volunteered at the Unicorn Centers, Inc., for the OLLU Fall Employee Service Day. Part of the Mission Road Ministries network of nonprofits, the Unicorn Centers offers a variety of daytime and employment support services to adults with intellectual disabilities.

OLLU volunteers helped facilitate their annual Oktoberfest for about 300 individuals. Volunteers led games, dance lessons, craft activities, and prepared lunch for the group. The day ended with a reflection led by University Ministry.

The Center for Service-Learning and Volunteerism coordinates two employee service days each year, as part of the university’s strategic plan. Faculty and staff are allowed to take part in one service day per calendar year without using vacation time. The next service day will be in May 2016.
