The University has added a new component to the OLLU Emergency Alert System and it will be tested Thursday morning.
The new component allows OLLU police to secure all campus doors with electronic locks through a computer connection. It also broadcasts a pre-recorded message through campus phones and speakers. The message will be preceded by a loud emergency alert signal.
Thursday’s test is a preliminary exercise. A large-scale test will be conducted at a later time when students are on campus.
The new component to the alert system will allow University police quick access to broadcast an on-campus message during a public safety emergency, and limit access to parts of campus. The OLLU Emergency Alert System also includes a mechanism for sending emergency messages through text, email and messages to home phones. The text, email and home-phone messages will NOT be tested Thursday.
