Four teams earn NAIA Scholar Team recognition

ScholarTeamsThe National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced the teams that earned the distinction of Scholar-Teams for the 2015-2016 academic year. Four OLLU teams earned the distinction — women’s soccer, softball, volleyball and men’s golf.  For a team to be considered for the NAIA Scholar-Team award, it must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) as defined by the institution. The team grade point average includes all eligible varsity student-athletes. Women’s soccer, led by Head Coach Arthur Salazar, earned the University’s highest GPA of 3.31. The team accumulated 2,257 GPA hours for 682 GPA points.  Men’s golf, led by Head Coach Alan Baxter, earned a 3.17 GPA. The team accumulated 649 GPA hours for 205 GPA points. Softball, led by Head Coach James Kling, earned a 3.06 GPA. The team accumulated 1,420 GPA hours for 464 GPA points. All three are being recognized as an NAIA Scholar Team for the second year in a row. Making their debut as an NAIA Scholar Team, accounting for their best-ever GPA, is volleyball, led by Head Coach Jeremiah Tiffin. The team earned a 3.00 GPA, with 1,338 GPA hours for 446 GPA points.
