San Antonio tech leader to serve as commencement speaker on Saturday

janie-gonzalezJanie Gonzalez, founder and CEO of Webhead, one of the largest privately held, female-owned Web and cybersecurity companies in San Antonio, will serve as the commencement speaker during ceremonies on Dec. 17 at Freeman Coliseum. OLLU will confer degrees for more than 400 undergraduate and graduate students.

With $500 cash, credit cards and an entrepreneurial drive, Gonzalez was determined to break the cycle of poverty and stereotypes of Latinas in the career field. While a junior in college, Gonzalez co-founded Webhead. She became the first Hispanic woman to own and operate a Web development company on the Westside of San Antonio.

Her business and technology acumen grew Webhead into a multimillion-dollar company supporting a customer portfolio of $28 million in contracts. Under her leadership, Webhead continues to innovate in the areas of application security, Internet operations, GIS technologies and API management. Webhead has a digital footprint in Texas, Virginia, Washington D.C., California, Nebraska and Louisiana.

Gonzalez has been inducted into to the San Antonio Women’s Hall of Fame for Technology. She has won numerous awards, including: E-Myth Entrepreneur of the Year, San Antonio Hispanic Innovator, Compass Bank Latina Business Excellence recipient, La Prensa Diamond Small Business Award recipient, National Association of Women Business Owners Innovator Award recipient, and Accion Texas Microlender Entrepreneur of the Year.

Graduation celebrations and preparations begin Friday with Ring Blessing and Graduation Liturgy.

The schedule of events is as follows:

Friday
Ring Blessing – 3 p.m. – Sacred Heart Chapel
Students will have the opportunity to have their rings individually blessed. Graduation regalia is not required.

Graduation Liturgy – 5 p.m. – Sacred Heart Chapel
Graduating seniors and their families and friends are invited to celebrate Mass. Graduation regalia is required.

Saturday
Commencement Ceremony – 11 a.m. – Freeman Coliseum
