Women’s basketball clinches fifth consecutive RRAC Regular Season Championship

womens-basketball-seniors2-25Friday evening, the OLLU women’s basketball team clinched its fifth consecutive Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) regular season championship with a 77-69 win over the LSU-Shreveport (LSUS) Pilots.

Alyssa Ward scored 20 points and dished out four assists, Jessika Montalvo posted a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds and Whitney Sandmann contributed 15 points and eight rebounds. After the game, all three climbed the ladder to cut down the net to celebrate their regular season championship.

Saturday evening, the Saints took to the floor and scored a 110-67 victory over the LSU-Alexandria (LSUA) Generals.

Having clinched their fifth consecutive conference title the night before, the No. 16-ranked Saints played their normal starters sparingly, getting all six players who scored in double figures off the bench. OLLU finished the regular season 23-7 and 17-1 in conference. LSUA finished 11-11 overall and 8-10 in conference.

Next week, the Saints will travel to Alexandria, La. to compete in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) Tournament, which runs from March 2-4. The Saints won the tournament last year.
