2017 OLLU Homecoming set for Nov. 2-5

OLLU will be celebrating Homecoming this weekend. Festivities kick off Thursday with the Mr. and Ms. OLLU Showcase, followed by another OLLU favorite, Casino Night, on Friday night. This annual tradition brings the OLLU community together to celebrate the pride and spirit of OLLU.

The variety of events that will take place over the weekend are sure to provide fun for students, staff, faculty and families.

Thursday, Nov. 2
Mr. and Ms. OLLU Showcase

7 p.m.
Thiry Auditorium
Current OLLU students will compete for the opportunity to be crowned the 2017-2018 Mr. and Ms. OLLU. This showcase will include talent and eveningwear competitions.

Friday, Nov. 3
Casino Night
6-9 p.m.
Chapel Auditorium
This OLLU favorite is back as students, alumni and families can enjoy a fun night of casino games, prizes and dancing. Tickets are $20 each and include food, beverages and $1,000 worth of playing chips.

Saturday, Nov. 4
Breakfast with the Sisters of Divine Providence
9-11 a.m.
Regan Hall Community Room, OLL Convent
Join the Sisters of Divine Providence for breakfast, a tour of the Convent Heritage Room and a providential reflection.

Welcome Home BBQ Picnic

“Quest for Honor” documentary viewing
2 p.m.
Thiry Auditorium
Join producer and director Mary Ann Smothers Bruni for a screening of her powerful 2009 documentary about a former teacher and tireless activist who works with local lawmen, the Kurdish government and her colleagues to investigate and eradicate honor killings in the tribal regions of Kurdistan.

“Quest for Honor” premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and was shortlisted for an Academy® Award nomination for Feature Documentary. It was also a winner of the Amsterdam Film Festival Van Gogh Award and named an Official Selection at several other film festivals around the world.

The viewing will be followed by a question-and-answer session with Bruni.

The screening is free to attend.

Meet Veronica Salazar, current Mass Communication students and experience the upgrades to the Lake Front Newsroom in the Veronica Salazar Media Center.

Communication Disorders School Naming Ceremony

Harry Jersig Speech-Language-Hearing Center
Celebrate the naming of the OLLU Communication Disorders Program for alumna and founder Elizabeth Carrow Woolfolk, PhD, and her husband Robert M. Woolfolk, and its official elevation as the Woolfolk School of Communication Sciences and Disorders. Attendees will also enjoy an open house to learn more about the work going on in the undergraduate and graduate CDIS programs and the Harry Jersig Speech-Language-Hearing Center.

Worden School of Social Service 75th Anniversary Celebration
2 p.m.
Worden School
Worden School of Social Service professors and students will provide an open house. Social work professionals are invited to participate in workshops for CEUs.

Hoppy Saints Craft Beer Tasting
7:30 p.m.
UWAC Lawn
Enjoy craft beer tasting, tamales and dancing under the stars. Limited edition OLLU beer glass will be available.
