2017 OLLU United Way campaign begins today

The United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County Charitable Campaign: Heart of the Community is currently underway. OLLU is once again participating in this effort to help support the greater San Antonio community. The United Way supports 69 partner agencies and 137 programs in San Antonio, which support children, families and the San Antonio community. In 2016, United Way efforts directly touched the lives of 86 of OLLU’s employees who have benefitted from services from 11 agencies supported by United Way.

In 2016, the OLLU community contributed more than $17,000 to United Way with a 52-percent employee participation rate. OLLU ranked third in percentage of employee participation among the San Antonio Higher Education workplace employee campaigns. Since the OLLU community is known for its strong commitment to service and community, the goal this year is to be No. 1 in participation among the San Antonio higher-education institutions.

This year, OLLU is challenging faculty and staff to help continue the university’s support of United Way agencies and increase the employee participation level. Faculty and staff will be receiving a donor pledge form soon and may designate a specific agency to receive a donation by filling in the number that corresponds with the agency they wish to support at the bottom on the page. Payroll deduction is an easy and convenient way to give and keep track of donations. For those who choose to use the payroll deduction option, donations will begin Jan. 1. 2018. Cash and checks are accepted as well.

Mary Scotka is serving as OLLU’s United Way Campaign Coordinator this year and donor pledge forms should be submitted to her in Providence Hall, Room 2D. OLLU’s campaign begins on Oct. 23 and ends Nov. 17, 2017.
