Reminder: carrying firearms on campus is prohibited

This is a reminder that carrying firearms on campus is prohibited. Even those who hold a concealed handgun license (CHL) are prohibited from carrying firearms on campus.

The OLLU Board of Trustees voted to “opt out” of allowing person’s holding CHLs to carry firearms on campus following the 2015 passage of Senate Bill 11 in the Texas Legislature’s 84th Session. The bill included a provision for private universities to decide “after consultation with campus constituents” whether to follow the decision, create special “carry spaces” on campus or to “opt out.”

The Board of Trustees received input from students, faculty, staff, alumni and Sisters of the Congregation of Divine Providence to aid in making the decision to prohibit firearms on campus.

As required by state law, signs are placed throughout campus to notify everyone about the policy.
