Volleyball wins conference tournament

For the third consecutive year, the Saints volleyball team captured the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) Tournament title after defeating Huston-Tillotson University (HTU) 3-0. The Saints out-killed the Rams 44-38 in the 25-17, 25-19, 25-22 rout and will advance to the opening round of the NAIA National Championship Tournament. The Rams, appearing in their first-ever RRAC Tournament Finals, end their season with a 21-9 record. The Saints sit at 23-8.

Bailei Hubbard led all players in hitting percentage with a total of 19 kills, six errors on 34 total attacks for a hitting percentage of .382. Natalie Fazio was next with .341. Hubbard (19), Raven Swain (18) and Fazio (18) were third and fourth in kills. Anissa Tamez was third in assists with 42 and second in service aces with five. Fazio was fourth in service aces with four. Hubbard also led all players in blocks with a total of 11. Swain was third in digs with 32. The Saints were tops in hitting percentage (.278), Kills (87/14.5) and service aces (16/2.7). They were second in assists (81/13.5) and in blocks (25/2.2) and fourth in digs (97/16.2). At the conclusion of the tournament, Swain was named the tournament’s MVP, and Natalie Fazio and Bailei Hubbard were named All-Tournament.

The Saints will host the Opening Round of the NAIA National Tournament on Nov. 18 at 1 p.m. They will play Oklahoma City University, and the winner of the game will advance to the 38th Annual Volleyball National Championship presented by Delta Hotels will take place Nov. 28-Dec. 2 at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
