OLLU wins first place honors at Flambeau Parade

The OLLU float for the 2018 Fiesta Flambeau Parade won first place in the Community division. In addition, the students and staff walking along with the float won first place in the Marching division.

OLLU’s float for the Flambeau Parade was designed and built by Liz Longoria, university events manager and Alphonso Moya, university events assistant, with the assistance of several students, staff from the Institutional Advancement Division and several Facilities Management staff members.

The parade’s theme was “Three Centuries…One City,” and OLLU’s float served as a tribute to the Sisters of Divine Providence and OLLU’s place in San Antonio’s history.

The float also served as a tribute to the late Jesse Arenas, former Thiry Auditorium manager and technical director, who was an integral part of OLLU’s previous award-winning floats and had begun the concept for this year’s float prior to his passing in November.
