Women’s soccer eager for a successful season
The 2018 season for the women’s soccer team started this weekend. With 14 returners and 15 newcomers on the team this season, the Saints will be looking to seniors Brooke Cousins, Mako Tembo and Erica Robertson for guidance. Last year was the team’s only losing season (4-6/6-10), and this year, the women are eager to build upon their experiences.
The team is in its 11th season, and Arthur Salazar has begun his sixth year as head coach. Other than its first season in 2008 and last year, the team has qualified for the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) Tournament.
From 2013 – Salazar’s first year as head coach – through 2016, the Saints have captured both the conference regular season and tournament titles. In those four years, the team recorded just one conference loss. Salazar said, “I’m just hoping that the returning group learned from the challenges that we faced last year. Hopefully, we can bounce back and get ourselves to where we should be. At the same time, I am excited to see what our incoming players are going to do.”
