Students compete in mock summit
Students in Dr. Leda Barnett’s Political Science 4316 class competed in the Mock Organization of American States (OAS) Summit of the Americas at Texas State University Nov. 1-3. The OLLU delegation representing Argentina included Head Delegate Stephanie Garza, Ariel Jaimes, Michael Cisneros, Eric Guevara and Rebecca Uribe. The OLLU delegation representing Bolivia included Head Delegate CJ Gaitan, Sarai Benitez, Mariana Salazar, Christyn Cavazos, and Alondra Martinez. Students prepared resolutions and a position paper on behalf of their country, and then debated with students from other universities representing the member countries of the OAS. The group was privileged to meet Maria Bertol, the Argentine Ambassador to the OAS. OLLU senior Mariana Salazar won Distinguished Resolution, a commendable accomplishment, given the volume of resolutions submitted from students from all of the participating universities. The judges commended the work of OLLU students, giving special acknowledgement to them at the awards ceremony for their performance in their first time participating.
