OLLU to open 2018 Christmas season with tree decorating, Las Posadas and Candlelight

The OLLU community is invited to begin the Christmas season tomorrow with the decorating of the OLLU Christmas tree in the Mall Area starting at noon. The official tree-lighting ceremony will take place tomorrow at 5 p.m. in the Mall Area and will include a special blessing and caroling led by the University Choir, OLLU Band and Carol Choir.

Two longstanding OLLU traditions, Las Posadas and Candlelight, will also take place this week.

Las Posadas
Friday – 6 p.m.
The community is invited to participate in this Christmas procession that recreates the Holy Pilgrimage of Joseph and Mary to Bethlehem. The procession will begin in front of Annunciation Chapel and will conclude with a reception in Chapel Auditorium.

Candlelight: Once Upon a Time
5:30 p.m. – Dinner in Chapel Auditorium (ticket required)
7 p.m. – Candlelight Vespers Service – Sacred Heart Chapel
8:15 p.m. – Candlelight Caroling – Moye Hall, Rotunda
8:45 p.m. – Candlelight Reception – Providence Hall, Blue Room

The Sounds of Christmas concert
Thursday – 7 p.m. – Sacred Heart Chapel
Heart-warming Christmas songs will be performed by choirs from OLLU and area Catholic schools. The concert will be filmed by Catholic Television of San Antonio (CTSA) and will air throughout the Christmas season on CTSA.

Lessons and Carols at OLLU: A Special Service for Advent
Dec. 9 – 3 p.m. – Sacred Heart Chapel
This afternoon service will include Advent readings, complemented by carols, hymns and anthems of the season featuring:

  • Our Lady of the Lake University Choir
  • Chapel Boychoir of San Antonio
  • Musica Sacra San Antonio Concert Choir
  • Northwood Presbyterian Church Choir
