Baseball and softball teams volunteer at Big Lou’s Pizza

The baseball and softball teams participated in Pops Big Lou’s Pizza’s Annual Blood Drive and Marrow Registry last week. The blood drive was held to assist OLLU alumnus and former baseball student-athlete Russell Brown’s cousin Lane. Lane has aplastic anemia and needs blood transfusions as he waits to hear if he will need a bone marrow transplant.

Volunteering for community events is part of the NAIA’s Champions of Character program that helps student-athletes find the balance by keeping five core values -integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship and servant leadership – at the heart of the athletics experience.

The Saints baseball team will open its fifth season at home on Jan. 25, while the softball team will play its first game on Feb. 8 in Fort Worth, Texas.
