Dr. Evans recognized for advancing MLK dream
OLLU Provost Marcheta Evans, PhD, was recognized on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day at an “Appreciation Reception to honor San Antonians who have Advanced Dr. King’s Dream.”
As former chair of the Martin Luther King Scholarship Committee, Dr. Evans helped raise more than $200,000 for graduating seniors in Bexar County. As current chair the Carver Cultural Center’s Development Board, Dr. Evans helps provide financial and advisory support to the Carver Community Cultural Center.
Dr. Evans has a long and distinguished history of service. She developed the Provost Diversity and Inclusion Council and Bookclub at OLLU, served as past president of UTSA’s Black Faculty and Staff Association and served as past president of the American Counseling Association and the Association for Creative Counseling.
She has delivered more than 100 presentations at the state, regional, national and international level, focusing on issues of diversity, multiculturalism, women, empowerment and leadership.
Other local leaders to be recognized include CPS Energy CEO Paula Gold-Williams, Bexar County Commissioner Tommy Calvert, Frost Bank general counsel James Waters and The Center for Healthcare Services CEO Jeylenne Burley.
