Dr. Jane Grovijahn, OLLU freshman Catalina Sanchez and Sciences and David Espinoza, CSLV Service-Learning Coordinator

One of OLLU’s Service-Learning class groups was nominated for the Education Service Award by SAMMinistries during the United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County’s 30th annual Volunteer of the Year Awards. The nomination was submitted for the OLLU Homework Helpers and was one of three groups to receive a nomination in the category.

OLLU students have been providing services to students since 2008 giving more than 900 hours as Homework Helpers for children living with their families at SAMMinistries Transitional Living and Learning Center (TLLC). The current semester’s Homework Helpers are from Dr. Jane Grovijahn’s Service-Learning course, THSA 1300, The Catholic Imagination, which focuses on corporal and spiritual works of mercy.
