Volleyball opens conference play with 3-1 win over Huston-Tillotson and 3-0 win over Paul Quinn
The volleyball team opened conference play with a 3-1 win over Huston-Tillotson University last Friday. The Saints traveled to Dallas the next day and defeated Paul Quinn College 3-0. The Saints are now 9-1 on the season and are currently on a five-match winning streak.
In the home match against Huston-Tillotson, the Saints came out strong winning the first two sets 25-22 and 25-17. OLLU only committed three errors and had a .333 hitting percentage in the second set. Despite losing the third set, the Saints battled back to win a close fourth set. With the score tied 22-22 in the fourth set, Head Coach Scott Mattera called a timeout. The Saints seemed to be fueled by the speech given in the huddle and went on to win three straight points to secure the victory. The Saints defeated the Tigers 25-20, 25-9 and 25-21. Their next match is Sept. 21 at 1 p.m. against Texas College in Tyler, Texas.
