OLLU students win awards at Mock Organization of American States competition

Students in Dr. Leda Barnett’s POLS 4316 course competed in the Mock Organization of American States Summit of the Americas, held Nov. 14-16 at St. Mary’s University. The students served on two delegations representing Nicaragua and Honduras. The summit included student participants from numerous universities in the Southwest and México. 

OLLU student and Political Science major Nicole Infantes won an award for distinguished resolution for her Nicaraguan resolution on youth participation in government and civics. The competition for this award was among hundreds of resolutions from many universities.

OLLU delegates Brandy Rodriguez, Letzy Nunez, Alexus Gutierrez and Rogelio Pacheco, serving on the Secretariat for Multidimensional Security, also won an award for distinguished debate. Even when their topic was not in session in the committee, they worked with other delegates to propose and edit amendments and work out differences. 

OLLU participants in the competition included Christyn Cavazos (Head Delegate for Nicaragua), CJ Gaitan (Head Delegate for Honduras), Nicole Infantes, Letzy Nunez, Rogelio Pacheco, Kayla Bolden, Brandy Rodriguez, Madaline Marquez, and Alexus Gutierrez.
