Professor Benavides co-authors new book about San Antonio history
Professor of English Yvette Benavides, MFA, has co-authored a new book, “San Antonio 365: On This Day in History,” that provides a compelling look at the Alamo City in historical snapshots.
Written with her husband, Texas Public Radio host David Martin Davies, the book tells one story a day in the diverse 300-year history of San Antonio — from popular lore to lesser known stories, from tales of struggles and strife to those about triumphs forged by the community.
Published last week by Trinity University Press, “San Antonio 365″ touches on several themes, including race relations and public health. The book recalls the 1938 Pecan Shellers Strike, led by OLLU alumna Emma Tenayuca (MEd 1974).
Professor Benavides is the editor of the anthology series “EQ: Creative Nonfiction on Social Equity,” also published by Trinity University Press. She is a weekly commentator for Texas Public Radio and will host a books podcast for TPR that will launch later this summer. The podcast will feature author interviews, book reviews and more.
