RGV doctoral student wins $5,000 Noble Charities Foundation Scholarship

Mona-elo Martinez, doctoral student in the Leadership Studies program at the RGV campus, is the sole recipient of this year’s Nobel Charities Foundation Scholarship.

A former Student Activities Specialist at South Texas College, Martinez (MS Organizational Leadership ’19) will receive a $5,000 award.

Her ambition and determination to improve the lives of students in the Rio Grande Valley impressed the selection committee.

“As an alum and current student of OLLU, Mona-elo has continued to demonstrate each of the core values, which are fundamental to the OLLU community,” the selection committee said. “As the 2020 recipient of the Noble Charities Foundation Scholarship, she continues to lead by example, inside and outside the classroom.”

Martinez remains committed to serving others, especially in her community.

“My goal is to continue to guide students of the Rio Grande Valley and help make their dreams a reality as they pursue a Higher Education,” Martinez wrote in her essay. “The 2020 Noble Charities Foundation Scholarship will assist me in this endeavor.”

Noble Texas Builders established The Noble Charities Foundation Scholarship in 2019 to support OLLU students at the RGV campus. Noble made their home in La Feria in 2019 and presented OLLU with the scholarship at their grand opening.

OLLU Trustee Rene Capistran is President / CEO of Noble Texas Builders.

“The company’s values of trust, team and community fall in line with OLLU’s core values,” Capistran said.

The mission of Noble Charities Foundation, he added, is to “… inspire hope, improve lives and strengthen the communities we live in.”
