Soccer adds Danny Oughton as assistant coach for men’s and women’s teams
OLLU has announced the hiring of Assistant Coach Danny Oughton for the men’s and women’s soccer programs.
Athletic Director and men’s soccer Head Coach Shane Hurley commented, “We are very excited to announce the hiring of Danny Oughton. He brings solid experience as a coach and as an administrator. His independent thinking and initiative will benefit our men’s and women’s soccer programs.”
Oughton was a volunteer assistant for the women’s soccer program in 2017 and was promoted to assistant coach in 2018. He enters his fourth season as part of the women’s soccer staff and first season on the men’s staff.
Women’s soccer Head Coach Arthur Salazar said, “We are excited to add Danny as a full-time member to the coaching staff. As a part-time coach at OLLU for the past three years, Danny has proven to be an asset on the field and his passion has helped move the soccer program forward. We welcome his experience, insight and passion as a full-time member of the OLLU soccer staff.”
Oughton received a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing from Texas Lutheran University (TLU) in May 2010. While attending TLU Oughton played collegiate soccer for Head Coach Eddie Salazar, the brother of OLLU Head Coach Arthur Salazar. Oughton is the Senior Program Director for the San Antonio United Soccer Club for boys and the Sting San Antonio Soccer Club for girls. He manages high school-aged teams and handles college recruitment.
“I want to thank everyone at OLLU for giving me this opportunity,” Oughton commented. “I am truly honored to be able to work at a university that holds the same standards and morals to help young adults achieve their dreams. Wings up!”
Both soccer programs are set to compete shortly after the beginning of 2021. Men’s soccer enters its 14th year while women’s soccer begins its 13th season.
