Cross-country competed in the UIW Invitational to open 2021 season

The men’s and women’s cross-country teams competed in the UIW Invitational on Friday. The men’s team finished seventh overall while Lindsey Broussard (SO/Kingwood, Texas) finished in 51st place for the women in individuals.

Head Coach Patrick Torres said, “It’s not the day we were looking for one the men’s side. We’re always looking to be more competitive with our team score. With that being said, we had a lot of personal bests set today. Some of the athletes haven’t raced in over a year, so some rust is understandable. For the women, we only ran one girl due to COVID-19 recovery. Lindsey Broussard set a personal best after not racing for nearly a year. It’s not easy lining up to race by yourself, but Lindsey executed her race plan and ran well. I’m looking forward to a better showing at the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) meet in March.”

Texas A&M-CC captured the men’s tournament title with a score of 50, followed by Central Arkansas at 58, Abilene Christian at 62, UT-Rio Grande Valley at 67, Tarleton State at 140, Trinity University at 157 and OLLU at 170.

The Saints’ top finisher was Isaac Martinez (SO/Weslaco, Texas), who ran the 8k at 26:28.8 for 28th place. Other finishers are as follows:

Nathaniel Rodriguez (SO/San Antonio, Texas) – 26:43.8

Jose Zarate (JR/San Antonio, Texas) – 27:26.5

John Michael Davila (JR) – 27:32.3

Antonio Bustamante (JR/San Antonio, Texas) – 28:53.9

Broussard represented the women’s team and finished the 6k with a time of 25:29.0 for a personal best and a 51st place mark.
