Jose Diaz wins conference player of the week award
Jose Diaz (SR/Pinar del Rio, Cuba) of reached a career milestone and captured the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) Baseball Player of the Week award for Feb. 8-14. This is the third set of weekly awards for the 2021 baseball season.
Diaz was 6-for-7 at the plate for the Saints last week and collected the 200th hit of his college career in the process. The senior outfielder from Pinar del Rio, Cuba, reached the milestone on his first at-bat in a 9-4 loss to Oklahoma Wesleyan University on Tuesday. Diaz was 4-for-4 in the game with a double and three RBIs. For good measure, he drove in the only run of the second game against OWU with a first-inning single as the Saints won, 1-0. Diaz now sits at 205 hits for his career, and he leads OLLU in hits, runs, doubles, home runs and batting average. His .476 average is sixth-best in the RRAC. The Saints are 1-5 on the season.
