Ariel Montgomery throws no-hitter against Trinity

The softball team welcomed NCAA D3 Trinity University (TU) for a doubleheader on Sunday. The Saints lost the first game 7-3 and won the second game 4-0. OLLU is now 5-7 this season while the Tigers move to 4-2. Ariel Montgomery (JR/Castroville, Texas) threw a no-hitter that included seven strikeouts in game two. Montgomery puts her name in the record books among nine other Saints players that have thrown no-hitters.

Game one

Abigail Elizondo (FR/San Antonio, Texas) singled to left field in the bottom of the second inning to give the Saints an early 1-0 lead. The Tigers responded in the following inning with a run to tie the game. Joanna Gonzalez (JR/San Benito, Texas) singled to bring in Madison Nunn (JR/Cibolo, Texas) in the third inning and Montgomery hit a solo home run in the sixth inning. The Saints led 3-1 heading into the seventh inning. The Tigers offense found life and they put up six runs to lead 7-3. The Saints were unable to score in the bottom of the seventh inning and lost by four runs.

Starting pitcher Angela Ramirez (JR/Converse, Texas) pitched 6.1 innings and allowed six hits and three earned runs. The Saints totaled 10 hits and left five runners on base.

Game two

Montgomery led the Saints to a 4-0 victory by pitching a no-hitter in game two. She struck out seven batters and walked two. Gonzalez batted 2-for-2 and Elizondo went 2-for-3. Katelyn Esparza (SO/San Antonio, Texas) drove in two runs and the Saints tallied seven total hits. The win marks the first game of 2021 that the Saints have held their opponent scoreless.
