Men’s soccer outlasts LSU-Shreveport 1-0
The men’s soccer team defeated LSU-Shreveport (LSUS) 1-0 on Saturday. The Saints improve to 4-2-1 overall and 3-1-1 in Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) play. LSUS received votes in the NAIA Top 25 Coaches’ Poll.
Head Coach Shane Hurley said, “This was a good win for our players due to a great team effort. It was nice to see all 21 players traveling completely switched on and in the moment.”
The Saints are 4-3 in the all-time series against the Pilots.
Norberto Lira (JR/Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico) scored in the 33rd minute in what would be the game-winning goal. There were five total yellow cards handed out during the match. Starting goalie Joseph Baker (SO/Llantwit Major, Wales, U.K.) played all 90 minutes and made six saves. The Saints picked up the 1-0 victory despite allowing 15 shots and committing 16 fouls.

Leading the way for the Saints’ offense was Lira and Mitchell Medrano (SR/Baytown, Texas) with two shots each. Gledi Doda led the Pilots with three shots.
Overall, the Saints tallied seven shots, with four on goal. LSUS recorded 15 shots, six being on goal.
The Saints finish the regular season against University of Houston-Victoria at home on March 27 at 2:30 p.m
