CMASR to present screening of animated film, ‘Chica y Rita’

The Center for Mexican American Studies and Research will present the final La Calle 24 Film Festival event on Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. with a screening of the animated film, “Chico y Rita.”

The event will include a conversation about Afro-Latinidad and Afro-Caribbean music with Marc Perry, PhD, Associate Professor of African American Studies at the University of Texas at San Antonio, and Jessica Hajek, PhD, Assistant Professor of Music at Our Lady of the Lake University.

“Chico y Rita” is a musical love story with a jazzy soul set between Havana, Paris and New York City that enlivens Afro-Latinidad in a distinct moment in musical history. “Chico y Rita” is now open for viewing on the film festival website.
