Spree-Kolos’ hat-trick leads women’s soccer to RRAC semifinals

The women’s soccer team blanked Texas A&M University-Texarkana (TAMUT) 3-0 on Saturday to advance to the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) Championship Tournament semifinals. The Saints are now 12-5-1 overall. The Eagles finish the season with a 10-7-1 record.
The Saints have fared well against the Eagles with a 5-1 record prior to today’s match.
Sophomore Kyleigh Spree-Kolos (SO/Victoria, Texas) fueled the Saints with a hat-trick on Saturday. Her first goal was tallied just 11 minutes into the match with an assist from Irania Acosta (JR/El Paso, Texas). Ambree Rheinberger (JR/San Antonio, Texas) sent in a free kick eight minutes later that was capitalized by Spree-Kolos. The Saints were outshot in the first half, but goalkeeper Samantha Valadez (FR/Kingwood, Texas) made four saves.
With a 2-0 lead and 45 minutes from the RRAC semifinals, Spree-Kolos scored yet again in the 58th minute. Brianna Yanez (JR/Portland, Texas) picked up her team-leading seventh assist. Valadez completed a clean sheet with five more saves in the second half. The Saints totaled 12 shots and four corner kicks. OLLU will face University of the Southwest in the RRAC semifinals.
Inside the box score
Leading the way for the Saints’ offense was Spree-Kolos with four shots on goal. Dulce Memije had three shots on goal for the Eagles.
Overall, the Saints tallied 12 shots, with seven on goal. TAMUT recorded 15 shots and nine were on goal.
OLLU had four corner kicks while the Eagles took three.
The Saints play the University of the Southwest in the RRAC semifinals on Nov. 11 hosted by TAMUT.
