President Chávez, Chris Martin to kick start United Way campaign on Oct. 19
Plan to attend the United Way Kickoff on Wednesday,Oct. 19 at 10:30 a.m. in Chapel Auditorium with OLLU President Abel A. Chávez, MBA, PhD, and Chris Martin, President of United Way San Antonio and Bexar County.
Dr. Chávez will share how OLLU’s core values of service and community are aligned with United Way goals and the importance of our United Way Workplace Charitable campaign.
Martin will share how community charitable donations are leveraged with local grant funding, advocacy for bipartisan policy and volunteerism to provide maximum community impact.
United Way works to ensure that children have a safe and healthy start in life and that students stay in school and graduate. United Way programs are invested in strengthening individual and family well-being, and to providing a safety net of emergency assistance for those in urgent need. As an incentive to encourage OLLU employees to be trendsetters and to make their donation early during the kickoff, there will be a drawing for two pairs of tickets to attend the Texas State Fair. These tickets allow winners to attend the daily concerts, which includes the Oct. 23 La Mafia concert. Employees are encouraged to make contributions online, using the United Way E-Pledge portal at www.giveuw.org/OLLU.
Payroll deduction is a convenient way to give and keep track of donations. Should you decide to use the payroll deduction option, your donation will begin on Jan. 1, 2023. Our United Way campaign will begin on Oct.19 and continue through Nov. 18. If you have any questions about the campaign, please contact the 2022 OLLU United Way Campaign Chairs — Mary Scotka at mscotka@ollusa.edu or Victor Salazar at vmsalazar@ollusa.edu.
Ways to Give
· E-Pledge Portal – Use your OLLU e-mail address as your “user ID” and your employee ID number without preceding zeros as your “password.” Once you have signed in, you will be asked to create a new password prior to making your donation.

You might choose to designate your funds to one of United Way’s Impact Councils: Safety Net Impact Council (903), Successful Student Impact Council (905), Ready Children Impact Council (901), Strong Individuals and Families Impact Council (902). Another good option might be to support Catholic Charities (330), whose mission is to provide for the needs of others through selfless service.
