Women’s soccer defeats Huston-Tillotson 2-0
On the day dedicated to celebrating seniors, the women’s soccer team succeeded in defeating Huston-Tillotson University (HTU) 2-0. The Saints move to 7-3-6 overall and 5-1-4 in the Red River Athletic Conference, while the Rams drop to Jaguars 4-7-3 overall and 3-6-1 in conference.
The Saints are two games behind league-leader Texas A&M University-Texarkana, while HTU is five and a half games behind.
Prior to the game, the university honored seniors Irania Acosta, Madison Herrera, Sarah Miles, Riley Perez, Ambree Rheinberger
The Saints are 12-3 against HTU. OLLU defeated HTU 2-2 last year.
The Saints and Rams took turns on their side of the field for most of the game. HTU took the first shots before the Saints could get to their side. The Rams had four shots in the first half, while OLLU took five. The first half ended with no team scoring.
In the second half, the Saints scored just after kickoff on a shot from Sara Garza.
The Saints dominated on offense for most of the remainder of the game. Kaitlyn Olivas was able to score her second goal toward the final minutes of the match on a pass from Madison Herrera.
Inside the box
Gutierrez led the Saints with four shots, three on goal. Lesly Davila and Bryanna Jasso each had two shots for HTU.
Overall, the Saints totaled 10 shots, eight on goal. HTU took five shots, two on goal.
OLLU had three corners kicks, while the Rams had two.
The Saints will play their final game of the regular season on Oct. 29 at Texas A&M University-San Antonio at 1 p.m.
