Mass of remembrance, lecture dedicated to immigrants who lost their lives

International artist Reynier Leyva Novo is partnering with Worden School of Social Service and Mission and Ministry for a Mass of Remembrance for all immigrants who have lost their lives on the journey to the United States. The Mass will take place Thursday at 5 p.m. in Sacred Heart Chapel.

This will be a bilingual Mass. As people walk into the chapel, there will be the “Book of life” that will have the names of the immigrants who died in June 2022, when a tractor trailer filled with migrants was abandoned on a desolate road in San Antonio.

Following the Mass, Novo will present a lecture on his artwork. The lecture and a reception will take place at 6 p.m. in Main Building, Room 311

Novo is a Cuban-born artist who is currently taking part in a residency at Artpace. This collaboration came to fruition through Novo’s talks and investigations for his residency.
