San Antonio, Texas- The Our Lady of the Lake University men’s soccer team delivered a strong defensive performance and a three-goal first half to defeat Wiley University 3-0.
The Saints wasted little time finding the scoreboard, with Jovani Contreras opening the scoring just 2:31 into the match. Michael Joy provided the assist as OLLU took an early 1-0 advantage.
OLLU doubled its lead in the 35th minute when Alexis Vega finished a pass from Alessandro Sierra to make it 2-0. The Saints added another goal just before halftime, with Marouane Rouggani scoring in the 45th minute off another assist from Sierra.
OLLU carried its 3-0 advantage into halftime and maintained control throughout the second half. The Saints finished with 12 shots, including six on target, while limiting Wiley to nine shots and four on goal.
Contreras, Vega and Rouggani each found the back of the net for OLLU, while Sierra played a key role in the attack with two assists. Joy also recorded an assist on the opening goal.
The Saints’ defense held firm in the second half, keeping Wiley off the scoreboard despite the Wildcats’ opportunities. OLLU goalkeeper Zak Averns made four saves in 61 minutes of action, while Damian Eguez and Mario Rubio also saw time in goal to help preserve the shutout.
OLLU also controlled the corner-kick battle, earning 12 compared to three for Wiley.
The match became more physical as it progressed, with several yellow cards issued to both teams. Wiley’s Salvador Vazquez was shown a red card in the 62nd minute, leaving the Wildcats with 10 players for the remainder of the contest.
The 3-0 victory gave the Saints a complete performance on both sides of the ball, combining early offensive pressure with a disciplined defensive effort to secure the shutout.
