Yvette Benavides, associate professor of English, won first place in the “How I Found You” Valentine’s Day writing contest sponsored by Gemini Ink and the Rivard Report. Her short, nonfiction story, “Linguistics 101, Finding My Soul in Español,” tells the story of how she fell in love with linguistics. Read her winning story here.

Moody Lecture, Professional Development, canceled
Professional Development will not meet as scheduled today. The Moody Lecture by Dr. Mark Green has been postponed to a later date. An announcement will be made confirming the new date, time and location of the lecture.
The next scheduled Professional Development meeting will be on April 14.
Reminder to faculty: Submit Seed Grant Proposals
All faculty members are reminded to submit their proposals for the 2014 Seed Grant Program. The program was established to help faculty develop competitive proposals for external funding. View proposal guidelines here.
Employees can now access their W-2 online
OLLU employees will now have the ability to access their W-2 online on the myOLLU Portal. In order to access their W-2 online, employees must give their consent via the online form located within WebAdvisor under “Employee Profile.” The W-2 can be viewed and printed.
Employees who consent to access their W-2 online will not receive a paper copy next year. Employees can change their consent at any time.

Memorial scheduled for Professor Emerita Elisa Vazquez, MSW
Distinguished alumna and Professor Emerita, Elisa Vazquez (MSW Class of 1952), passed away over the holiday break. A Memorial Service is scheduled for Monday, Jan. 13, 11 a.m. at St. John’s United Methodist Church, 2002 Bandera Road in San Antonio.

Changes to the 403(b) Retirement Program are being considered. These changes result from amendments in IRS and Department of Labor regulations. To insure compliance with these regulations, the University is proposing to move to one retirement plan provider. Department deposits must be made by Thursday
Due to the Christmas holidays, the Student Business Office is requesting that all daily deposits be made by noon on Thursday, Dec. 19.

Lake Online training available for faculty
Training for the new Lake Online is available beginning this week and continues through the spring semester for all faculty members. The training will consist of Blackboard basics. Check the Technology Training section under the Technology Services tab on the myOLLU Portal for dates and times.
