The OLLU Staff Organization is selling tickets for its 2nd annual staff fundraiser on Oct. 26 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. They will be selling plates with chicken fajitas, sausage, rice and beans for $6, and soft drinks for $1. Tickets can be purchased in advance in the Assessment Center in Walter Center, Room G03.

HALO hosting public speaking competition
Higher Achievement through Leadership Opportunities (HALO) is hosting a public speaking competition Sept. 24 from 4-6 p.m. in Providence Hall, Blue Room. Students are encouraged to come by and cheer on their favorite speaker or just watch students attempt to speak professionally on hilarious topics as they compete to win big prizes.
Dinner will be provided.
Faculty member gives presentation on spirituality
Jane Grovijahn, PhD, professor of Religious Studies, recently returned from Dresden, Germany where she gave a presentation on the spirituality of Dorothee Soelle in response to queer suicides at the European Society of Women in Theological Research.

OLLU community invited to annual Fall Pep Rally


The Our Lady of the Lake University community is encouraged to attend the annual Fall Pep Rally that will take place on Tuesday in the Mall Area. Jay Tope, the Voice of the Saints, will emcee the event, which will feature a performance from the FYC Mentors. All coaches and teams will be introduced. The Office of Marketing and Communications will provide free hot dogs and Saints gear while they last.
OLLU women’s soccer wins tough battle against Northwood

The women’s soccer team played a tough match against Northwood University Sunday afternoon. The Saints came out on top to win 4-3 to improve their record to 5-1-1 while Northwood, an NAIA school in the Sooner Conference, suffers its first loss of the season and is now 3-1. The Saints have faced Northwood eight times since 2008. During the first year, the Saints lost 2-4 and 1-2. In 2009, the Saints won one and lost two. In 2011, the Saints split a win and a loss and last season, the Saints lost to Northwood, which this year moved from the Red River to the Sooner Athletic Conference. Read more online.Â
OLLU men’s soccer shuts out Howard Payne 2-0

The men’s soccer team beat Howard Payne University (HPU) 2-0 at the OLLU Soccer Field on Saturday afternoon. The win improves the Saints’ record to 5-0 on the season, while Howard Payne – an NCAA Division III  team – drops to 1-4. The game ended with the Saints outshooting the Yellow Jackets 36-2. Elias Cortes broke a Saints all-time single game record of shots after he finished with 11. Robert Alexe previously held the record with nine total in a game against Bacone in 2011. OLLU volleyball wins nine straight sets in weekend play

The volleyball team opened its conference schedule on Friday in Tyler against Texas College. The Saints beat the Steers in three sets, 25-20, 25-15 and 25-13. The team then traveled to Austin on Saturday to play a tri-match with Huston-Tillotson University and Dallas Christian College. The Saints won all six sets against the two teams. Read more online.
OLLU’s Victoria Vazquez and Robert Alexe named conference ‘Offensive Players of the Week’

Victoria Vazquez earned a share of the Red River Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week award for Sept. 2-9. Vazquez, a senior midfielder from Helotes, Texas, compiled two goals and three assists in a 1-0-1 week for the Lady Saints. She scored one goal to help OLLU claim a 2-2 tie against St. Mary’s University before playing a part in four goals in an 8-1 trouncing of Schreiner University (Texas). The Saints stand at 3-0-1 overall. Amaris Tavaris of OLLU was nominated for this week’s defensive award. Read more online.
Robert Alexe was recognized with the Red River Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week award for Sept. 2-8. Alexe, a junior forward from Chicago, booted in a pair of goals and assisted on another as the Saints won their only game of the week, 7-1, over Schreiner University. Alexe got the scoring started with a goal and assisted on OLLU’s second goal to establish a 2-1 lead. The Saints extended the lead from there and climbed to 3-0 on the season.
